250,975 Aircraft Passed Through Nigerian Airports In 2017 – NCAA

No fewer than 250,975 aircraft passed through 30 Nigerian airports in 2017 with majority of the movements coming from the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, according to a report obtained from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Monday.

This is as 4,056, 717 passengers arrived and departed Nigeria within the same period under review.

The breakdown of the domestic aircraft movement indicated that in the month of January, 5,030 aircraft passed through the Lagos Airport with 2,491 and 2,539 aircraft as arriving and departing aircraft respectively.

Abuja Airport had the second highest aircraft traffic in January with 3,922 movement and 1,956 and 1,966 as arriving and departing aircraft movement respectively.

According to the report, Kano Airport had 258 aircraft movement, Port Harcourt Airport; 1,351, Calabar; 155, Maiduguri; 704, Sokoto; 74, Ilorin; 194, Yola; 252, Kaduna; 276, Katsina; 43, Minna; 56, Gombe; 50, Enugu; 363, Akure; 62, Benin; 287, Eket; 104, Ibadan; 130, Jos; 56, Owerri; 505 and Osubi airstrip with 376 aircraft movement within the period.

Others were Zaria; 10, Bauchi; 14, Asaba; 98, Finima; 229, Kebbi; 53 and Dutse Airport with 10 aircraft movement in the January of 2017.

Makurdi, Akwa Ibom Airport, Escravos, Akwa Ibom and Forcados airstrips had no aircraft movement in the first month of the year 2017.

For the month of February, Lagos Airport had a total number of 5,037 aircraft movement, Abuja Airport had 3,707 aircraft movement, Kano 266, Port Harcourt 1,309, Calabar 156, Maiduguri 603, Sokoto 106, Ilorin 185, Yola 166, Kaduna 317, Katsina 28, Minna 51, Gombe 40, Enugu 315, Akure 126, Benin 294 and Ibadan with 117 aircraft movement.

Others are Jos 76; Owerri 430; Osubi 303; Zaria 12; Bauchi 22; Escravos 1,624; Akwa Ibom 241; Asaba 104; Finima 286; Kebbi 54 and Dutse with just 12 aircraft movements in the February 2017.

For the month of March, Lagos had 5,553 aircraft movements, Abuja had 1,170, Kano 307; Porr Harcourt 1,428; Calabar 190; Sokoto 162; Ilorin 219; Yola 231; Kaduna 2,356; Katsina 22; Minna 119; Gombe 38; Enugu 322 and Akure had 51 aircraft movements in March.

Others for the month of March were Benin 381; Ibadan 178; Jos 138; Owerri 378; Osubi 364; Zaria 9; Bauchi 64; Escravos 2,114; Akwa Ibom 278; Asaba 44; Finima 317; Kebbu 4 and Dutse had 15 aircraft within the period.

In all, a total number of 62,872 aircraft arrived and departed Lagos Airport on the domestic scene in 2017, Abuja 44,484; Kano 4,285; Port Harcourt 16,367; Calabar 2,184; Maiduguri 8,711 Sokoto; 1,474; Ilorin 2,867 Yola; 2,609 and Kaduna had 7,713 aircraft movements in the past year.

Others were Katsina 529; Minna 888; Gombe 736; Enugu 4,573; Akure 1,206; Benin 4,216; Eket 1,704; Ibadan 1,984; Jos 1,009; Owerri 6,083; Osubi 4,945; Zaria 206; Bauchi 559; Escravos 20,259; Akwa Ibom 3,056; Asaba 1220; Finima 3,144; Forcados 146; Kebbi 558 and Dutse had 106 aircraft movement in 2017.

On the international routes, only 17 airports received and departed aircraft with a total number of 40, 283 aircraft movement.

The breakdown of the movement showed that there were 20,181 and 20,102 aircraft movement as arrival and departure, respectively.

The international wing of Lagos airport had a total number of 27,698, Abuja; 7,650, Kano; 1,887, Port Harcourt; 1,821, Calabar; five, Maiduguri; 98, Sokoto; 83, Ilorin; 34, Yola; 58, Kaduna; 410, Katsina; Minna; 36, Gombe; 44, Enugu;328, Bauchi; 36, Kebbi; 51 and Dutse with 12 aircraft movement within the period.

International passenger movements indicated that at least 4,056, 717 passengers passed through 18 Nigerian airports within the period.

However, Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt Airports led the packs with the highest number of arriving and departing passenger movements in 2017.

The breakdown showed that Lagos had 2, 869,099 arriving and departing passengers in 2017, Abuja; 734,509, Kano; 186,795, Port Harcourt; 81,125.

Others were Calabar 25, Maiduguri 7,762, Sokoto 20, 495; Ilorin 6,058, Yola 11,428, Kaduna 46,832, Katsina 9176, Minna 9,556, Gombe 4,888, Enugu 41,344, Bauchi 9,523, Akwa ibom 47, Kebbi, 14,385 and Dutse with 3,679 international passengers in 2017.
