A brace from Ahmed Musa moved Nigeria closer to a second round place at the 2018 World Cup.

CSKA Moscow’s Musa scored two second half goals to help Nigeria to a 2-0 win over Iceland.

The win put Nigeria in second place ahead of the crucial final game against Argentina on Tuesday.

The win over Iceland owed much to an improved second half performance from the Nigerian after a poor first half which saw them have no shot on goal.

The Eagles put in an amazing 15 shots at goal in the second half putting their European opponents on the back foot.

Ahmed Musa opened the scoring in the 49th minute before completing his brace with a superb solo strike in the 75th minute.

Iceland’s Gylfi Sigurdsson missed a penalty in the 83rd minute after it was awarded following a VAR review.

Musa’s brace means he has now has four World Cup goals for Nigeria, at least twice as many as any other player in their history.

Only, Asamaoh Gyan and (6) and Roger Milla (5) have scored more goals for African countries.

The 27 year old has also scored each of Nigeria’s last four World Cup goals.
