President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have been presented certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The presentation was done on Wednesday at the International Conference Center, Abuja, venue of the result collation for the 2019 presidential elections.
Osinbajo was first to collect his certificate of return after which President Buhari took his turn. Both men were accompanied by their wives, Dolapo and Aisha respectively.
The presentation was done by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and was greeted with cheers by party faithful who already thronged the venue.
“Ladies and gentlemen, in fulfillment of the electoral act which says that a certificate of return shall be issued not less than seven days to the declaration of the winner, I hereby announce that the certificate of return will be issued to the President-elect and Vice President-elect at 2pm today in this very hall,” the INEC boss had earlier declared when he announced final election results early Wednesday morning.
Recall as earlier reported , President Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 to defeat his closest rival and the PDP candidate, Atiku, who polled 11,262,978.
