‘There’s no crime asking for self-determination’ – Activists, agitators, groups condem arrest of Igboho, Kanu

A cross section of well meaning Nigerians, groups and activists have slammed the Buhari-led administration for arresting Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.

Igboho was arrested on Monday night in Cotonou, Benin Republic, at an airport.

The development has continued to stir divergent reactions on social media with Nigerians likening Igboho’s arrest to that of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya.

Some Nigerians wondered how the Buhari-led government has failed to arrest bandits causing insecurity in most parts of the nation but employs all tactics to arrest activists.

They demanded that the government employ the same intelligence used to arrest activists for bandits and Boko haram terrorists to secure the nation.

Some also noted that Igboho’s arrest is a clear indication that this government wants war.

Here are some reactions gathered ;

@Oduduwa Republic, “Now the case begins.

Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou.

No more peace in Nigeria. Oduduwa Republic now/Biafra now.”

@RenoOmokri, “Any Southwestern politician who remains silent while Buhari persecutes Igboho must be marked and punished in 2023! Garba Shehu openly released a statement that Miyetti Allah deserves “respect”. Igboho also deserves respect, if not from the government, then from us.

@ComradeAdeyanju, “If Buhari who overthrew a democratically elected Govt can become president years later and be referred to as a hero by some people, then how can Nnamdi Kanu & Sunday Igboho who are only demanding for self determination be treated like criminals?”

@Afenifere,” This measures shows that the Federal government is interested in expending energy in dealing with those agitating for their people, much more than putting an end to terrorism and banditry. It is on record that lives running into thousands have been lost to banditry especially in the Northern part of the country while kidnapping is at an alarming rate in the Southern part of the country. Federal government is not putting much effort in this as much as it’s putting on those clamping down on those peacefully agitating for the lives of Nigerians to be better.”

@OhanezeIgbo, “The interceptions of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu signify that those who promote the consciousness of Nigerians are detained while the terrorists, bandits, and killer herdsmen are furnished with cover-ups by Northern leadership to destabilize the South for their heinous political purposes.”

@Huriwa, “The administration of Buhari by fiercely going after Sunday Igboho of the Yoruba self determination agitation platform and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of the erroneously proscribed indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and then maintaining unpatriotic silence and active conspiratorial silence on the dastardly terrorists activities of Buhari’s kinsmen the armed Fulani attackers and kidnappers including those who shot down military jet in Zamfara State, what this government has shown together with its refusal to ease out the Minister of communications and digital economy Sheikh Ibrahim Pantami who was clearly caught supporting Al- Queada and the Taleban Islamic terror group in Afghanistan, is that the central government supports the activities of the Fulani militants masquerading as Fulani herdsmen who are on a well coordinated rampage to seize the ancestral lands of Southerners including the Christian dominated Southern Kaduna State whose communities have continued to face devastating violence and terror attacks from the armed Fulani militia and kidnappers.”

@OmoyeleSowore, “The arrest of Sunday Igboho in Cotonou by the Beninoise authorities was orchestrated by tyrant Muhammadu Buhari. There’s no crime asking for self determination. Let all oppressed people UNITE. A government that pampers bandits and terrorists!”
