Three people were killed and four others were injured in a shooting that took place in the 10th arrondissement of central Paris on Friday, according to Alexandra Cordebard, the town’s mayor.

“Following the dramatic shooting which took place this morning, I returned to Paris and will go to the scene. All my thoughts go to the families of the victims. The perpetrator was arrested,” French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted.

The shooting has not been designated as a terrorist incident, though all avenues are being investigated.

A suspect aged 69 was quickly arrested and it soon emerged he was freed from custody recently.

Authorities appealed for people to avoid the area in Strasbourg-Saint Denis in the 10th district of Paris.

There is no confirmed motive for the shooting, but Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed that that the suspect had just been released, a year after he had attacked tents at a migrant camp in Paris with a sword.
