Akeredolu endorsed me severally at different fora — Aiyedatiwa

Ahead of the next governorship election in Ondo state, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday, disclosed that he and his late principal, Rotimi Akeredolu, were best of friends till his last moment on earth.

Aiyedatiwa who described his late boss as a dogged democratic and a defender of truth, said he would have loved to see his late boss alive to see him become governor of the state.

He maintained that Akeredolu would have been proud of him as a worthy successor, saying his late principal had openly endorsed him as his successor times without number.

The governor insisted that it was late Akeredolu’s wish that he (Aiyedatiwa) emerged the next governor, and promised not to disappoint him.

Speaking during a media parley with journalists and media executives in Akure, the state capital, Aiyedatiwa promised to build on the legacies of the late governor.

According to him, Akeredolu will never be forgotten because his legacies and impacts could be seen and felt across the state and the countryto.

He said, “I’m so proud and I feel honoured to have passed through your tutelage. I am proud to say I am a part of Akeredolu legacies. It has been his wish that I succeed him.

“He said it on our first day of inauguration. He said it severally during our Exco meetings and repeatedly in so many other fora severally.

“I would have preferred he stayed back and watch me govern the state. I know he will be proud of me and I will not disappoint him.

“I trained under Akeredolu. He was a man who always says his mind on national issues.

“He says his thoughts not minding his pursuit. When he speaks, the nation will be at attention. We imbibe his qualities on governance.”

Aiyedatiwa said the truth about the recent political imbroglio would soon be made public, but maintained he and late Akeredolu were best of friends till the end.
