The suspects who had already loaded two trucks with the vandalised rail tracks before their arrest said they were employed by one Alhaji Babawo who is currently on the run to steal the rail tracks and offload them in a nearby bush along the road.

On June 26, 2024, troops from 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State intercepted and apprehended 47 suspected rail track vandals along the Kakau Daji-Anguwan route during a routine patrol.

The suspects who had already loaded two trucks with the vandalised rail tracks before their arrest said they were employed by one Alhaji Babawo who is currently on the run to steal the rail tracks and offload them in a nearby bush along the road.

The acting Commander, of 1 Division Provost Group, Lt. Col. IY Rena said the 47 suspects were properly profiled to know how much of such crimes they had committed while efforts were being made to arrest the gang.

In a tweet on X on Saturday Lt. Col Rena said some of the vandalised tracks were found concealed in a nearby bush waiting to be carted away by other criminal syndicates.

The suspects had since been handed over to the authorities of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) in Kaduna Station for further investigation.
