Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Sego, has been inaugurated as the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)

Sego previously served as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for a few months following the dissolution of the council’s executive committee.

The inauguration ceremony, held with great fanfare at the union’s secretariat in Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos, was attended by numerous council members from across the state.

Expressing his joy, Sego urged members to prioritize peace following the recent crisis within the union. “If you have the sense to win a war, you must also have the sense for peace. We want peace in our state. May God help me to ensure peace in the union,” he said.

He thanked God for his life and the opportunity to lead the union, as well as everyone who had supported him along the way. Sego expressed gratitude to his late parents, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Private Secretary Mr. Akeem Muri Okunola, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, and the Oba of Lagos, HRM Oba Rilwan Akiolu. The newly elected National President of NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, expressed gratitude to God and paid homage to the union’s founding fathers. In a speech delivered by the Vice President for the South East region, Chief Anthony Ewa, Oluomo urged members to elevate the union following the National Delegates Conference in Osogbo, Osun State, on November 14, 2024.

“I express my gratitude to the Almighty Allah for allowing us to witness this event despite the recent challenges faced by the union,” he said. He acknowledged the dignitaries, development partners, and other attendees, while paying tribute to the union’s founders whose sacrifices remain invaluable. Oluomo encouraged members to avoid actions that could lead to violence and called for support in building a stronger union. He also recognized union officers who completed the mandatory two terms allowed by the union’s constitution.

Engineer Ojoowuro Olasunkanmi, representing the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, congratulated Sego and highlighted the crucial role of NURTW in the state’s transport agenda. “NURTW is essential in our mission to make Lagos a smart city. I encourage all members to support Sego and his team for a successful tenure,” he said.
