The Ogun State Police Command on Friday said that it has deployed adequate number of its operatives to ensure adequate security for Saturday bye-election of Remo Federal Constituency comprising of Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Governments area of the state.
The command has equally warned that for a credible and transparent election, voters are to align with the electoral laws and must not be found engaged in vote buying or any conduct that could cause breach of peace as the applicable law would be applied to whoever is found to be disobeying the law.
The command also said that movement across the three local governments would be restricted from 12am of Saturday to 4pm while police stop and search teams and other operational units will be strategically deployed to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free exercise.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, CSP Omolola Odutola on Friday.
Ogunlowo, while reportedly briefing the police officers ahead of the poll at the command’s headquarters, Eleweeran, Abeokuta emphasised that the operatives must remain professional, embrace civility and remain neutral as they go about to perform their constitutional roles during the election.
He explained that “The Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, and additional manpower from Zone 2 Command, Lagos, has put in place robust security measures to prevent election-related violence and ensure a safe and secure environment before, during and after the election.
“To ensure a credible, transparent, and violence-free election, voters are enjoined to adhere to the electoral laws. Acts such as campaign, vote-buying, distribution of flyers, or display of political stickers at polling areas are prohibited.
“Movement in areas where elections will hold will be restricted from 0000hrs to 1600hrs on 16th August 2025. Police patrol vehicles, stop and search teams and other operational units will be strategically deployed to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free exercise.”
The command appealed for the cooperation of all voters and warns individuals with malicious intentions to stay away from polling units as any attempt to disrupt the process will be met with decisive action.
