The Yobe State Hisbah Commission raided Garin Alkali town, Walawa community in Gashua Local Government Area of the state, confiscated a large consignment of alcohol and arrested 84 persons engaged in prostitution.
The Chairman of the commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 18, 2025.
“On Sunday, 17th August 2025 (23rd Safar 1447 Hijra), the Yobe State Hisbah Commission, under the able leadership of Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, and in collaboration with the joint security task force Operation Haba Maza, carried out a major raid in Garin Alkali town, Walawa community in Gashua Local Government Area,” the statement read.
“The operation was aimed at curbing immoral and anti-social activities that are harmful to the moral fabric of society. By the special mercy of Allah, the Hisbah Commission recorded a major success in the operation.
“A large consignment of alcohol was confiscated (equivalent to four truck vehicles fully loaded).
“Also, a total of 84 persons were arrested, comprising 50 women and 34 men engaged in prostitution.
“The Commission has sealed all the houses involved in these heinous acts. All the suspects are currently in custody and will be duly charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the laws of Yobe State.
The chairman added that the Yobe State Hisbah Commission remains firmly committed to its objectives, which include: promoting morality in line with Islamic teachings and cultural values, curbing social vices such as prostitution, gambling, alcoholism, and drug abuse, protecting the dignity of women and children, ensuring the society remains guided by the principles of justice, decency and respect, among others.
“The Commission wishes to specially commend the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, for his continuous support to the Hisbah Commission, morally, financially, and logistically. His administration’s backing has strengthened the Commission in fulfilling its mandate of safeguarding morality and promoting the wellbeing of society.
“The Yobe State Hisbah Commission urged upon the general public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies.”
Dr. Abubakar urged on people to report immoral and criminal activities within their communities, as this collective effort is vital for the progress of the state.
