Police nab 65-year-old illegal arms dealer in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, near Onitsha, the commercial centre of the state.

In a press statement on Saturday, the spokesman for the state command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect identified as Akpan Godwin ‘m’, confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.

Ikenga said police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Akwuzu acting on credible information arrested the suspect on Friday.

The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, acting on credible information on Friday, arrested one Akpan Godwin ‘m’, aged 65 years, in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.

“Meanwhile the operatives have stepped up the investigation/manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices. Further developments will be communicated.”
