Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party have started arriving at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja for its 102nd National Executive Committee meeting.

The meeting, scheduled to commence at 2pm, is expected to be attended by governors, former ministers, and other prominent figures, including the party’s former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George and former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana.

In a post via its official X handle on Monday, the PDP said the NEC would deliberate on key issues, including the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the party’s national convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The atmosphere at the secretariat was charged, with members singing and cheering as party chieftains arrived for the session, which is seen as part of the PDP’s renewed effort to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Today’s meeting reflects the PDP’s shared vision and determination to deliver for Nigerians in 2027,” the party stated.

The zoning committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, with Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal as vice chairman and Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang as secretary, was constituted in July to distribute the 19 National Working Committee positions between the North and South.

At the South PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos last Thursday, leaders in the region resolved to allocate the Deputy National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary to the South-South, the National Secretary and National Auditor to the South-West, and the Deputy National Secretary and Financial Secretary to the South-East.

With the backing of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Secretary position was micro-zoned to Oyo, while Akwa Ibom secured the Publicity Secretary slot.

The tenure of the current acting NWC, led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, will expire in December.

To avert further internal cracks, the party’s 101st NEC meeting in July approved the November convention, which will be chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary.
