Pioneering Achievement: Captain Chinyere Kalu broke barriers in the male-dominated aviation industry by becoming the first Nigerian woman to earn a commercial pilot’s licence and to fly commercially in the country.

Education and Career: She enrolled at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, in 1978 and, after completing her training in the early 1980s, earned her commercial pilot’s licence. In 2011, she became the first woman to serve as Rector and Chief Executive of NCAT — the same institution where she trained.

National Recognition: Her contributions to aviation were recognised in 2006 when she was awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Nigerian government.

Inspiration: Her journey is celebrated as an inspiration, demonstrating determination and resilience in achieving her goals in a challenging field.
