A security guard, Amos Kini, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting his employer’s two-year-old son in the Elemoro area of the state.

It was learnt from a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, on Monday that the incident happened on September 21, 2025.

According to her, the child’s mother reported at the Elemoro Police Division that the guard had fled with her son and her mobile phone to an unknown destination around 11:50 p.m.

She added that the suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the child’s father, demanding N5m of ransom for the boy’s release.

The statement read, “The Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended one Amos Kini, male, a security guard, in connection with the abduction of a two-year-old child in the Elemoro area of Lagos.

“The incident occurred on September 21, 2025, at about 2350hrs, when the mother of the child reported at the Elemoro Division that her security guard had absconded with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location without her consent. The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of N5m for his release.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives from the Elemoro Division immediately initiated a swift response. The scene was promptly visited and documented. One Aruna Dauda (male), who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning.”

According to the statement, the pressure forced the guard to release the child before operatives tracked him to a hideout in the Elemoro axis on September 23.

He was said to have confessed to the crime and was also kept in custody by the police.

Adebisi further noted that he would be charged in court at the conclusion of the investigations.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly condemned the abduction of the innocent child, reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of violent and capital crimes in the state.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, and advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the Police, any of our emergency numbers 08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678,” the statement added.

The case comes amid a string of abductions linked to domestic and work-related relationships in Lagos.

PUNCH Metro reported in August that a 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Clement, was arrested by operatives of the command for allegedly abducting his customer’s seven-year-old son in the Ketu Alapere area of the state.

He was said to have later contacted the victim’s mother to demand a ransom of N7m for the boy’s release.

Detectives later trailed the painter to the Ijegun area of the state, where he was arrested, while the boy was rescued in the process.
