Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed speculation about Erling Haaland’s potential exit from the club, insisting the striker is fully committed to his contract and intelligent enough not to sign a deal he doesn’t intend to honour.
According to Fabrizio Romano’s post on Monday, Guardiola said, “I think Erling is not stupid enough to sign a long contract he would not like to accomplish. That’s for sure. But with football, who knows what is going to happen next time? Nobody knows!”
Guardiola’s comment comes amid renewed rumours linking Haaland with Spanish giants Real Madrid, despite the Norwegian having signed a long-term deal with City when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. His contract reportedly runs until 2027.
Since arriving at Manchester City, Haaland has been nothing short of sensational, helping the club to a historic treble in the 2022/23 season and setting the Premier League single-season goal record.
His performances have made him one of the most sought-after players in world football.
His goal helped Manchester City earn a hard-fought victory on the road against Brentford on Sunday.
