Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have arrived in Santiago, Chile, ahead of their FIFA U-20 World Cup Round of 16 clash with Argentina on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
The team’s arrival was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 PM local time (Chilean time) at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.
The squad, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, qualified for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage. Their campaign saw them recover from a 1-0 loss to Norway with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Saudi Arabia. They secured their passage to the Round of 16 with a 1-1 draw against Colombia in their final group match, thanks to a late penalty converted by captain Daniel Bameyi.
The Flying Eagles are scheduled to hold their final training session at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos on Tuesday as they prepare for the crucial knockout fixture against the six-time U-20 world champions.
The upcoming fixture is a repeat of their Round of 16 encounter at the 2023 U-20 World Cup, where the Flying Eagles eliminated tournament hosts Argentina with a 2-0 victory.
