In 1957, a young woman from Kano named Grace Atinuke Oyelude made history as the very first Miss Nigeria. What’s even more amazing? She’s 93 years old today and still full of grace, wisdom, and strength. 🌸

Born on November 16, 1931, in Sabon Gari, Kano State, Grace’s journey to fame began unexpectedly — her younger brother secretly submitted her photo to the first-ever Miss Nigeria contest organized by Daily Times. Out of more than 200 contestants, she was crowned queen, winning £200, a wardrobe of new dresses, and a trip to London. ✈️👗

But Grace didn’t stop at beauty — she chased brilliance. She used her prize money to study nursing and midwifery in the UK, becoming a State Registered Nurse in 1961 and a State Registered Midwife in 1962.

Upon returning home, she served in hospitals across Northern Nigeria, trained hundreds of nurses, and led medical teams during the civil war. 🏥💉

Her dedication to humanity earned her top honors, including being celebrated as “The Florence Nightingale of West Africa.” 🩺🌍

She also holds the titles Iyaolu of Isanluland and Iyalode of Okunland — a true woman of beauty, brains, and courage.

Today, Grace Oyelude stands as a living legend — a symbol of women’s empowerment, national pride, and resilience. From Miss Nigeria to Matron and Mentor, her life tells us: real beauty never fades; it only glows brighter with time. ✨

Let’s celebrate this timeless queen who carried herself with dignity long before social media existed.
