Jebba is a Yorùbá Kingdom in Moro Local Government of Kwara State. The Scottish explorer Mungo Park was shipwrecked and drowned in the Bussa Rapids north of Jebba around 1806. Mungo Park’s monument still stands on Jebba Island.
The town is also home to the largest paper mill factory in West Africa. Unfortunately, due to mismanagement and lack of investment, the paper mill is now closed.
Other tourist sites in Jebba include the Juju Rock (where Nupe bronze figures, dating from the 15th century, were discovered).
Additionally, the remains of William Baikie’s boat, another Scottish explorer sponsored by the British to set up trading stations on the Niger, can be found where his boat foundered on some hidden rocks in Jebba.
