The Joint Security Task Force in Yagba West Local Government Area has apprehended yet another suspected logistics supplier involved in the distribution of hard drugs to criminal elements operating within the area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the L.G.A. Chairman.
The suspect, identified as Owoloja Femi, an indigene of Ejiba, was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Odo-Eri, along Saminaka Road, during a routine patrol by the JTF. He was allegedly conveying suspected illicit substances to bandits when operatives intercepted him.
“According to security sources, his accomplices had already loaded the two cartons of drugs onto their motorcycle and fled the scene upon sighting the security team, while Owoloja was captured as he attempted to escape.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who is said to be the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association (Ejiba Branch), confessed to sourcing the drugs from a chemist shop in Egbe for onward delivery to his accomplices hiding in the forest. He was also found with the sum of ₦600,000, suspected to be proceeds or operational funds for the illegal transaction.
“The suspect is currently in custody as further investigations continue to uncover links, sponsors, and other collaborators in the supply chain aiding banditry and criminal activities in Yagba West.
“The Executive Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area and Chairman of Kogi State ALGON, Hon. Tosin Olokun commended the operatives for their swift response and renewed efforts in dismantling criminal logistics networks across the zone.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ensuring the safety and peace of all communities and warned individuals against aiding, harbouring or transacting with criminal groups.
