The convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has insisted on going ahead with his group’s planned protest to press home demand for immediate release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in spite of the police warning.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier warned that, in compliance to the Abuja High Court’s order, no protest must be carried out around the Aso Rock villa and its environs.
The warning notwithstanding, Sowore on Sunday urged the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, to make arrangements to protect citizens ahead of the planned protest on Monday.
Sowore threatened that “any use of excessive force or unlawful arrests will attract repercussions.”
Kanu, who is facing a seven-count charge of terrorism and treasonable felony, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.
