Newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has dismissed reports of the alleged Christian massacre in Nigeria.
It was reports that the claim of Christian genocide in Nigeria took another turn last week, with President Donald Trump designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
The US President also vowed that if the Nigerian government fails to end the alleged persecution of Christians, the American military may intervene.
However, speaking shortly after a meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Monday, the CDS said there is no genocide against Christians, as claimed by some US lawmakers and religious freedom activists.
He argued that terrorism, which has been plaguing Nigeria for decades, is a global issue.
He said, “There is no Christian persecution in Nigeria. I want to assure Nigerians of that. We are facing insecurity, especially terrorism, and it’s something that has been affecting Nigeria for quite some time now.
“We have been doing our very best to checkmate this act of terrorism within the country.
“If there are countries out there who are ready to support Nigeria, we are ready to bring them on board to help us checkmate the act of terrorism in Nigeria.”
