The Kano State House of Assembly is set to receive the 2026 Appropriation Bill from Governor Abba Yusuf on Wednesday, marking a historic moment as the state prepares to present its first-ever N1 trillion budget.

The development was disclosed on Monday by Chief Press Secretary to the House, Kamaluddeen Shawai, following the presentation of the governor’s correspondence to lawmakers.

The Speaker, Jibril Falgore, while reading the letter, said the proposed budget would be formally submitted on Wednesday for consideration and approval.

“In accordance with Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I have the honour and privilege to inform this noble House of my desire to submit the 2026 Kano State Proposed Appropriation Bill on Wednesday.

“The proposed budget contains programmes and vital services in the overall interest of Kano citizens,” the letter read.

Majority Leader, Lawal Dala, stressed the role of the legislature in scrutinising the proposed budget.

“It is our duty to examine the proposals carefully to ensure they align with the needs of Kano people. We await the formal presentation,” he said.

The 2026 budget, which reflects a significant improvement in internally generated revenue and measures to block leakages, is expected to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, urban renewal programmes, and socio-economic development initiatives across the state.

Yusuf’s administration has indicated that the budget will focus on housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium enterprises, aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable livelihoods for Kano residents.

The Speaker appreciated lawmakers for their commitment to the state and wished the governor a safe arrival ahead of the budget submission.

Once presented, the proposed ₦1 trillion budget will become the largest ever from a northern state in Nigeria and is poised to shape policy priorities and fiscal planning across sectors in Kano State.
