Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Monday pledged that his administration will deliver 15,000 mass housing units for civil servants and middle-income earners by 2026.

This, he said, forms part of ongoing efforts to provide affordable and dignified accommodation across the state.

Speaking during a lecture at the 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod of the Catholic Church, held at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui Enugu, Mbah highlighted the Enugu Smart City Project, which integrates smart housing, fibre optic connectivity, and green energy systems to improve residents’ quality of life.

He also announced that his administration had commenced rehabilitation work at the Aluminium Plant in Ohebe-Dim, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, with inauguration scheduled for October 1, 2026.

“My administration will deliver 15,000 mass housing units by 2026.

“We have embarked on an affordable housing scheme, including the new Enugu housing estate, which offers dignity and stability to civil servants and middle-income earners,” he said.

Speaking on the aluminium plant, Mbah said the company would be upgraded to fabricate aluminium and produce aluminium profiles.

He also stated that the Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igboeno, has been upgraded to a University Teaching Hospital.

Acknowledging the link between faith and governance, Mbah said, “The church forms character while the government builds the systems that help the character to flourish.”

He described the synod as a sacred moment of listening, reflection, and renewal.

The 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod, declared open on Sunday by the Bishop, Most Rev Calistus Onaga, aims to address challenges faced by the church and deepen the faithful’s commitment to God. The synod, themed “Promoting a Productive Economy in Enugu State,” is scheduled to run from November 16 to November 22, 2025.
