The Kano-Maradi railway will connect Kano in Nigeria to Maradi in Niger Republic. This project was initiated during the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in September 2020 while construction started in February 2021.
Linking two neighbouring countries, this project is intended to promote quality socio-economic relations between Nigeria and one of its northern neighbours.
Length and routes
The 284km standard guage rail track will pass through 12 stations in
Kano and Dambata (Kano State),
Kazaure (Jigawa State)
Daura, Mashi, Katsina & Jibiya (Katsina State).
A separate lane of 94km rail links the railway with Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
Capacity
The railway is projected to transport 9,300 passengers and 3,000 tonnes of freight daily.
