Three personnel of the Nigerian Army have been apprehended following an attack on police officers performing security duties along the Shao–Malete Expressway in Kwara State.

A situation report from the Shao Police Unit confirmed that the incident occurred on December 23, 2025, at about 5:45 pm when a Shao patrol team intercepted two motorcycles.

According to the report, three occupants, later identified as army personnel, alighted from the motorcycles and confronted the officers, attempting to disarm and physically assault them.

One police officer, PC Abdulganiyu Abdullateef, sustained injuries during the encounter.

“The patrol team quickly called for reinforcement from the division, but before the backup team arrived at the scene, the three army personnel had fled. However, one Saka Suleiman, male of Shao, who rode the motorcycle, was arrested,” the report read.

“During investigation, he identified one of the fleeing soldiers as Saka Jamiu, a native of Shao.”

It was reported that on December 24, 2025, at around 1:00 am, police successfully arrested the remaining suspects: Atunwa Adekunle, Ishola Awolola, and Saka Jamiu, all male natives of Shao and members of the Nigerian Army.

“Meanwhile, one dagger knife was recovered from the suspects,” the report says.

The report notes that efforts are ongoing to transfer the arrested personnel to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further discreet investigation.

The police have assured that appropriate action will be taken following the conclusion of the investigation.
