The Vice-Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, Prof. Bayode Popoola, has said that the Federal Government has concluded plans to install a solar power plant at the institution.

Prof. Popoola made the disclosure while speaking at an orientation programme organised by the University’s Division of Student Affairs (DSA) for newly admitted students into the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking on the solar power plant, the University Administrator lauded the Federal Government for the initiative, noting that when fully operational, the project would help alleviate problems associated with epileptic power supply at the institution.

He said, “The Federal Government has identified this university among several others. Six were chosen, and AFUED is one of them. FG is going to install a solar power plant in our university so that we don’t have to depend solely on electricity from the national grid for our energy supply.

“That project has already started, and I am sure that during your time as students, it will be completed so that we can have 24/7 power supply in the university.

“It is a Federal Government project, and we are monitoring it to ensure it is well delivered,” he added.

Prof. Popoola congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to make judicious use of the admission opportunity by being responsible during their stay in the university.

He encouraged them to view the university as more than a secondary school, where activities are highly regimented, by devoting more time to their studies and obeying all rules and regulations.

The Vice-Chancellor warned new entrants against indulging in negative acts such as cultism, violence, crimes, examination malpractice, and drug abuse, which he said could bring the institution into disrepute. “If you are caught in any of these, you will be disciplined,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of hard work, Prof. Popoola urged new students to focus on their academic development and make effective use of facilities provided by the university to enhance learning.

“You must remember your priority, which is your academic work. In addition, you must utilise resources such as the library and other academic facilities to ensure your academic growth and personal development,” he advised.

He commended the Dean of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. (Mrs.) Justina Ogboru, and other staff for organising the orientation, and encouraged students to take advantage of opportunities available at the DSA by seeking assistance whenever needed.

Earlier, the DSA, Dr. (Mrs.) Justina Ogboru, explained that the orientation programme was organised to provide new students with essential information to guide their conduct and enhance their academic progress at the University.

She also advised the new entrants to behave responsibly by obeying rules and regulations concerning dress code, membership of student associations, and maintaining orderly conduct in the institution.
