Anthony Joshua is set to spend New Year’s Eve in Duchess International Hospital, a luxury healthcare facility in Nigeria, as the Nigerian-born British boxer continues to recover from a road accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
The two-time world heavyweight champion was a passenger in a black Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State.
According to Daily Mail, Joshua was rushed to Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, widely regarded as Nigeria’s leading private medical facility and rated the country’s best private hospital for the past two years.
The hospital offers an elite VIP service known as the Harley Street Practice, located on its sixth floor.
The facility includes Duchess Royal Suites, which provide 24-hour one-to-one care, access to specialist medical personnel and hospitality staff, as well as gourmet meals tailored to patients’ preferences.
The basic package for a Royal Suite with en-suite facilities reportedly starts at around £2,000.
Joshua is reportedly in a stable condition and sustained only minor injuries, although sources suggest he will remain under observation for at least a few more days as a precaution.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed to the BBC that a formal investigation into the accident has been ordered.
“I can confirm to you that an accident occurred and the victim has been taken to the hospital,” Ogunlowo said.
