The Ogun State Police Command, on Friday, has charged to court one Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver who drove the ill-fated Lexus SUV jeep with registration plate number: KRD 850 HN, which had world boxing champion Anthony Joshua and two of his friends in the vehicle.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, when the SUV rammed into a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The 46-year-old Adeniyi was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State, on a four-count charge bothering on “dangerous driving causing death; reckless and negligent driving, as well as driving without due care and attention.”
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this through a statement made available to journalists on Friday afternoon in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
According to the charge sheet made available to LEADERSHIP by the PPRO, Adeniyi was also accused of “driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence”, an offence said to be contrary to Section 10, sub-section 1 of the Federal Highway Act.
The charge sheet read in part: “Dangerous Driving Causing Death, contrary to Section 5 (1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F: 135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (as applicable in Ogun State).
“Reckless and Negligent Driving, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the same Act.
“Driving Without Due Care and Attention, causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7 (1) of the Act.”
The court, however, admitted Adeniyi to bail in the sum of N5million, with two sureties in like sum and consequently adjourned the matter till January 20, 2026, for further trial.
The accused was also ordered to be remanded at the Sagamu Correctional Centre, pending when he would perfect his bail conditions.
