Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, said he is not worried so much about people saying there might be a tough choice for him picking the starting lineup against Mozambique on Monday.
These concerns came after some players who are not often used, did well in the game against Uganda in their last Group C game.
Chelle said how players perform in training is what will decide who starts in the Africa Cup of Nations Round of sixteen match against Mozambique on Monday.
In the last game of the group stage against the Cranes, Chelle made some changes and gave four players their first chance in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Those players were Ryan Alebiosu, Igoh Ogbu, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Salim Lawal. Other players like Paul Onuachu, Francis Uzoho, Raphael Onyedika, and Chidozie Awaziem were also given a chance to try and earn a spot in the starting lineup.
When asked during the press conference before the Monday match if their recent performances had made it harder for him to choose the team for the game against the Mambas, the Malian said there will always be a way.
“We looked at the three games from the group stage, but the training session is the most important one,” he said.
“The training session matters more to me because this is a question about the group. If a player has a good training session, they might get a chance to play.
“That’s why every time I mention that we are focused on our game project and on our training session. I hope to have a good game tomorrow.”
Nigeria reached the Round of sixteen by winning all the group matches and taking home all nine points. The Super Eagles beat Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.
