A man identified as Ebenezer Frimpong has been arrested for allegedly stealing an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service at Nkawie Market in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The incident, which reportedly caused panic in the busy market area, triggered a swift response from security operatives who moved quickly to track down the suspect.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred after the driver of the police armoured vehicle momentarily stepped away, leaving the engine running.

Frimpong was said to have taken advantage of the situation by entering the vehicle and driving off from the crowded market.

Following reports of the theft, law enforcement officers initiated a coordinated pursuit to recover the vehicle and apprehend the suspect.

The operatives tracked the movement of the stolen vehicle along the Nkawie–Mim route in a determined effort to intercept it.

Frimpong was eventually apprehended near Mim after what authorities described as a swift and well-coordinated operation.

A security source said, “The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and the vehicle was recovered intact.”

Authorities confirmed that the armoured vehicle was retrieved without any damage and has since been returned to police custody.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Security officials are expected to review the events leading to the theft, including the circumstances under which the vehicle was left unattended in a public space.
