Troops of the 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck conveying a large consignment of illicit drugs along the Lagos Calabar Coastal Road in a successful intelligence led operation, dealing another blow to drug trafficking activities within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.
Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
Lt. Col. Yahaya said the operation was carried out on July 9, 2026, after troops acted on credible intelligence. The vehicle was intercepted and its driver arrested without incident.
Preliminary investigations according to him, indicated that the illicit drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. However, the suspect was unable to provide satisfactory information on the ownership of the consignment or identify its intended recipient.
Following the interception, he said the suspect and the recovered drugs were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The military spokesman said the handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, who transferred both the suspect and the seized consignment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Lagos State Command in line with established procedures.
Reacting to the operation, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and operational effectiveness.
He urged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to deny drug traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of action within the division’s area of responsibility.
