For years, whenever Nigerians complain about bad leadership, corruption, insecurity, poverty, unemployment, poor roads, or failing institutions, some people respond: “Don’t talk too much. Just pray for Nigeria. God will fix everything.”
Prayer is important to those who believe in it. But prayer should not become an excuse for silence, inaction, or refusing to hold leaders accountable.
A nation is not transformed by prayers alone. It also requires responsible citizens, honest leadership, justice, accountability, good policies, hard work, and the courage to speak when things are going wrong.
When citizens are told to keep quiet while public resources are mismanaged, when wrongdoing is ignored because “God will handle it,” and when leaders are never questioned, problems can continue for generations.
God may answer prayers, but human beings still have responsibilities.
We cannot pray for good roads and refuse to demand accountability.
We cannot pray for security while ignoring the failures that make communities unsafe.
We cannot pray for good leadership and remain silent when leaders abuse public trust.
We cannot pray for a better Nigeria while refusing to do our own part.
Nigeria does not need less prayer. Nigeria needs prayer accompanied by action.
Speak up. Vote wisely. Demand accountability. Reject corruption. Protect public property. Support justice. Do your work honestly. Hold leaders accountable regardless of party, religion, ethnicity, or region.
A better Nigeria will not be built by waiting for someone else to come and save us. It will be built by Nigerians who decide that enough is enough—and are willing to do something about it.
Pray for Nigeria, yes. But don’t stop there.
Pray. Speak. Act. Build.
