Parents have a God-given responsibility to guide, teach, discipline, and encourage their children. Children do not learn only from school; they are also shaped by what they see, hear, and experience at home. When parents fail to teach their children good values, respect, responsibility, and the ways of God, the world around them will gladly fill that empty space.
The streets can teach lessons that parents may never want their children to learn. Therefore, parents should not wait until their children are older before giving them proper guidance. Train them early, love them, correct them, pray for them, and lead them by example.
Proverbs 22:6 (KJV):
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Training a child is more than providing food, clothing, and education. It includes teaching character, honesty, respect, self-control, kindness, and the fear of God.
Ephesians 6:4 (KJV):
“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
Parents should correct their children with love and wisdom, not with anger or humiliation.
Proverbs 29:17 (KJV):
“Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.”
Children need boundaries. They need parents who are willing to say “no” when necessary, explain what is right and wrong, and remain consistent in their guidance.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (KJV):
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…”
Parents, do not leave your children to be trained by the world. The values you plant in them today can influence the people they become tomorrow. Your presence, prayers, correction, love, and godly example matter.
Train them at home before the streets train them outside.
Teach them the truth before the world teaches them confusion.
Give them guidance before they are forced to learn from painful consequences.
Proverbs 1:7 (KJV):
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Parents, your children are watching. Train them, guide them, love them, and lead them in the right way while you still have the opportunity.
