Marriage should be built on love, honesty, trust, mutual understanding, and respect. A husband should not secretly make decisions that permanently affect his wife’s opportunity to have children without her knowledge or consent.
For many women, motherhood is a deeply cherished desire. If a husband does not want children, or no longer wants more children, that is something that should be discussed openly and honestly with his wife. Marriage requires communication—not deception, manipulation, or secretly taking away an important choice from one’s spouse.
The Bible teaches husbands to love and cherish their wives:
“Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”
— Colossians 3:19 (KJV)
A husband is also called to love his wife sacrificially:
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”
— Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)
Love should not be used as a cover for secrecy or selfishness. A healthy marriage requires both husband and wife to communicate about major decisions concerning their future and family.
The Bible also recognizes children as a blessing:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
— Psalm 127:3 (KJV)
This does not mean every couple must have children, nor does it mean that a woman’s worth depends on becoming a mother. Rather, it reminds us that the desire to build a family is something that should be treated with seriousness and respect.
The Bible further teaches husbands to treat their wives with understanding and honour:
“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife.”
— 1 Peter 3:7 (KJV)
Therefore, if a husband does not want children, he should speak honestly with his wife, listen to her desires, and make such an important decision together rather than secretly controlling her reproductive choices.
Marriage is a partnership. Love should never be built on deception.
A husband should not secretly deny his wife the opportunity to become a mother. Instead, he should communicate openly, respect her feelings, and seek a decision that both partners can honestly accept.
Love her. Honour her. Communicate with her. Never secretly take away a life-changing choice from the person you promised to love.
