Marriage is built on love, trust, honesty, companionship, and mutual understanding. The desire to have children is also a deeply personal and important matter within marriage. Therefore, a wife should not secretly take away her husband’s opportunity to become a father by making a major reproductive decision without his knowledge or agreement.
Likewise, this principle should apply equally to husbands: neither spouse should secretly prevent the other from experiencing the joy and responsibility of parenthood. Decisions about having children should be approached with honesty, communication, prayer, wisdom, and mutual respect.
The Bible teaches that marriage involves two people becoming one:
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.”
— Matthew 19:6 (KJV)
Being “one flesh” does not mean that one spouse should secretly control the other. Rather, it calls both husband and wife to walk together in love, truth, and consideration.
Scripture also teaches:
“Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.”
— 1 Corinthians 7:3 (KJV)
Marriage requires mutual consideration. Important decisions that affect the future of the family should not be handled through deception, manipulation, or secret actions.
The Bible further says:
“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”
— Ephesians 5:21 (KJV)
And concerning communication and truthfulness:
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour.”
— Ephesians 4:25 (KJV)
If a husband strongly desires to become a father while his wife does not want children, this is not a matter that should be settled through secret actions. It deserves an honest and respectful conversation. They should seek understanding, prayer, and, when necessary, wise counsel.
Children are described in Scripture as a blessing:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
— Psalm 127:3 (KJV)
At the same time, having children is a serious responsibility. Parenthood should never be forced upon someone, and neither spouse should be deceived about such a life-changing decision.
A healthy marriage requires truth instead of secrecy, communication instead of manipulation, and mutual respect instead of selfishness. If two people disagree about having children, they should address the disagreement openly rather than secretly making a decision that permanently affects the other person’s life.
Marriage is a partnership. Decisions about the future of the family should be made with honesty, love, wisdom, and respect for one another.
