Having children is a blessing, but responsible parenthood also means understanding the responsibilities that come with bringing a child into the world.
Every child deserves food, clothing, education, healthcare, shelter, attention, guidance, and a safe environment in which to grow. These responsibilities require not only love, but also time, emotional strength, and financial resources.
When a family has more children than the parents can realistically provide for, financial pressure can become overwhelming. Money that might have been enough to comfortably support a smaller family may suddenly have to cover the needs of many more people.
The result can be increased difficulty paying school fees, providing nutritious meals, covering medical expenses, paying rent, and meeting other essential household needs.
This conversation should not be used to shame parents who are struggling. Financial hardship can happen to anyone. A family may experience job loss, illness, rising living costs, divorce, unexpected expenses, or other circumstances that completely change its financial situation.
However, family planning and responsible decision-making can help reduce avoidable financial pressure.
Before having another child, parents should consider their existing responsibilities and ask themselves some important questions:
Can we comfortably provide food and shelter?
Can we afford quality education for all our children?
Can we handle healthcare and unexpected expenses?
Can we give each child the time, attention, and guidance they need?
Having children should not simply be about how many children a person wants. It should also be about whether the parents are prepared to give those children the care and opportunities they deserve.
Ultimately, responsible parenthood is not about having the biggest family—it is about giving the children you have the best possible foundation for life.
