Local hunters and members of a local vigilance team have rescued five wedding guests and eight other victims that were kidnapped by gunmen along the Omu-Aran highway, at Obbo-Ayegunle in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara state.
It was gathered that the victims were abducted while returning to their Odo-Owa residence from a wedding ceremony in Ope town, Kogi state last Saturday.
The kidnap victims were said to include Oloye Oyewole Abolarin, the head of hunters in Odo-Owa, his wife Funmilayo Abolarin, Tunde Oladipo and his wife and a woman identified as Bose, all from Agbele Igbede compound in Odo-Owa town.
It was also learnt that the suspected kidnappers had contacted families of their victims, demanding a N100 million ransom for their release.
In response, relatives and community members had started pulling funds to meet the demand, while also urging Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and security agencies to intervene
Sources in the area said that the victims regained their freedom on Christmas Day.
