Police arrest three members of armed robbery syndicate, recover firearm and ammunition in Bauchi (photos)

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested three members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate in the Sabon Layin area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, December 7, 2024, a locally-made revolver and eight rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

“A patrol team attached to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, during a raid in the Sabon Layi area, arrested one Suleiman Adamu ‘m’, aged 40 (aka Baba Mai Ruwa), of Sabon Layi,” the statement read.

“During the operation, they recovered a locally-made revolver, eight rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and three expended ammunition of the same calibre. Additionally, two motorcycle number plates were found in his possession.

“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Adamu Sale (aka Dogo) ‘m’, aged 30, of the Rafin Makaranta area.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in a series of armed robberies in the Zaranda village area.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using the locally-made firearm to rob three motorcycles, which they sold to one Jibrin Mohammed ‘m’, aged 30, of Railway Area Bauchi. Jibrin confessed that after purchasing the first stolen motorcycle, the owner confronted him, and the matter was resolved privately.

“He further disclosed that he purchased the second motorcycle for N70,000 and later sold it for N80,000 to scrap metal buyers.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, Psc, Anipr, has directed a thorough investigation into the syndicate to identify additional suspects and recover other stolen motorcycles.”
