Students stage protest over rising cases of kidnapping in Ondo state (photos)

Students across all the tertiary institutions in Ondo State came out in their numbers this morning March 27, to protest over the rising cases of k!dnappings and other criminal activities in the state.

The protesting students led by the NANS South West chairman, Oluwarotimi Joshua, blocked major roads in Akure, the state capital, obstructing traffic as they called on the state Government and security agencies to be sincere in addressing various security challenges in the state. The protesting students carried placards with different inscriptions expressing their anger over insecurity in the state.

The students accused the state government of paying lip service to the security of lives and property in the state.

The students lament the government’s failure to address their demands despite multiple engagements and peaceful dialogues.

The protesters also highlight the deteriorating conditions of tertiary institutions in the state, the lack of student-friendly policies, and the insecurity affecting students, particularly those undergoing the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

Attempts by the state commissioner of police, Wilfred Afolabi to disperse the protesters and clear the roadblocks were met with resistance by the students.
