The words we speak have power. A tongue can encourage a broken heart, restore hope, strengthen the weak, and bring peace. But careless words can also destroy relationships, spread hatred, cause deep wounds, and bring sorrow.
Before you speak, think about the effect your words may have on someone. You may forget what you said, but the person who heard your words may remember them for years.
The Bible warns us:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
— Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)
“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”
— Proverbs 15:4 (KJV)
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
— Proverbs 16:24 (KJV)
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
— Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)
Let your tongue be an instrument of truth, love, encouragement, wisdom, and peace. Do not use your words to destroy someone when you have the opportunity to build them up.
Think before you speak. Your tongue can kill, or it can save. Choose words that give life.
