🚨 NANS PRESIDENT FIRES BACK AT DINO MELAYE OVER NELFUND, ASUU & STUDENT WELFARE
The debate over Nigeria’s university education, NELFUND student loans and ASUU strikes has taken another turn as the NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, responds to comments attributed to former Senator Dino Melaye.
In his remarks, the NANS President defended the Federal Government’s student-support initiatives, pointing to the NELFUND student loan programme and ₦20,000 upkeep support as measures aimed at reducing the financial burden on Nigerian students.
NELFUND currently reports that more than 1.1 million students have been supported through its loan programme, with over ₦191 billion in loans disbursed.
The NANS leadership has also been vocal about the importance of uninterrupted academic calendars. However, recent developments show that ASUU-related disputes have not completely disappeared, with NANS warning in August against further disruptions and ASUU branches in some institutions taking industrial-action steps.
