A Libyan driver has been arrested during an attempt to smuggle seven undocumented Nigerian migrants from Sabha to Benghazi.
The Brega police intercepted the vehicle and detained the driver and the migrants on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
According to a post by Migrant Rescue Watch, the Nigerian nationals, comprising seven women and a man, were found in possession of forged Libyan documents.
“Police in Brega during road control seized a vehicle and arrested a Libyan driver for an attempted human smuggling of undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality (7 women & 1 man) who were in possession of forged Libyan documents,” MRW stated.
“During police interrogation, the driver admitted to transporting the migrants for financial gain (500 LYD/ca. 104 USD per person) from Sabha to Benghazi.
“All remain in police custody pending referral to public prosecution.”
