Late COAS Taoreed Lagbaja To Be Laid To Rest Today

Reports indicate that his remains, which arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday at 12:18 p.m., will be interred today at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

Preparations for the burial of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who died last week has been finalized.

Reports indicate that his remains, which arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday at 12:18 p.m., will be interred today at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

The funeral rites began on Thursday with a Service of Songs held at Mogadishu Cantonment, attended by key officials from all security agencies.

During the ceremony, Maj.-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, paid tribute to the late army chief, describing him as an exceptional leader.

Speaking on behalf of the 39 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Aligbe noted that Lagbaja’s leadership qualities were evident from the outset.

“He was a born leader who exemplified dedication and service. To honor his legacy, we must uphold the values he championed – the unity of Nigeria and unwavering service to the nation. He gave his all, and I hope we reciprocated enough,” Aligbe said.

Representing the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, Bilikisu Ibrahim highlighted Lagbaja’s steadfast faith and commitment.

“To those he served, he was a source of unwavering strength, a protector in the face of chaos and threats. Beyond his military duty, he was a man of profound faith, drawing strength from his spirituality to navigate life’s darkest battles,” she said.

The funeral proceedings continue today as the nation bids farewell to a respected and dedicated military leader.
