The home is the first school a child attends, and parents are the first teachers. Children learn not only from what their parents say, but also from what they see them do. Good home training teaches a child respect, discipline, honesty, kindness, responsibility, and the fear of God.
A child who receives proper guidance and correction at home is more likely to understand the importance of good character and making wise decisions. This does not mean every well-trained child will be perfect, but the values planted in childhood can become a strong foundation for life.
On the other hand, when children grow up without proper guidance, discipline, love, and godly instruction, they may struggle to understand boundaries, respect authority, control their behaviour, and make wise choices. Parents should therefore not leave the responsibility of training their children entirely to teachers, churches, or society.
The Bible says:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
— Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
— Ephesians 6:4 (KJV)
“The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
— Proverbs 29:15 (KJV)
“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.”
— Proverbs 1:8 (KJV)
Good home training is not about harshness or punishment alone. It is about love, correction, example, discipline, instruction, and godly values. Parents should teach their children while they are young, because the lessons learned at home can influence the kind of adults they become.
Parents, do not only provide food, clothes, education, and money for your children. Give them good character, godly instruction, discipline, and a good example. What you plant in them today can influence their lives tomorrow.
