Ogun State is making headlines following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.

The agreements, signed in Paris in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, are projected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs when fully developed, according to the State House.

The proposed Gateway Deep Seaport at Ogun Waterside is planned with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, while the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone is proposed to cover 10,000 hectares. The projects are designed to support maritime trade, manufacturing, logistics, processing and exports, while potentially easing pressure on the Lagos port corridor.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has been pursuing investment and industrial development initiatives for Ogun State, and this latest agreement represents another major step in the state’s effort to attract international capital and strengthen its economic infrastructure.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed New York for Abuja following his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and led Nigeria’s delegation.

During his time in New York, Vice President Shettima participated in high-level engagements focused on issues including Nigeria’s role in global affairs, UN Security Council reform, development financing, education, Africa’s mineral resources, regional cooperation, peace and security, and stronger multilateral partnerships.

The State House had earlier announced that Shettima departed Abuja on September 20 to represent President Tinubu at the UN General Assembly.
