Kidnappers demand N100m ransom for abducted Ondo businesswoman

Published

Suspected kidnappers who abducted the wife of an Irele-based motorcycle dealer, Mrs Morenike Falona, have reportedly contacted her family and demanded N100 million ransom for her release.

The 35-year old woman was abducted in her home on Wednesday night, June 17, 2026 in Ode-Irele, headquarters of Irele Local Government area of Ondo State, in the presence of her family members.

A source close to the family disclosed that the abductors contacted the family and demanded the sum of N100 million.

The source revealed that the kidnappers did not make contact until about 48 hours after the incident and eventually called one of the family members at about 5.30pm on Thursday to make their demand.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the abduction said the command was not aware of any negotiation between the suspected kidnappers and the victim’s family.

He, however, said that concerted intelligence-driven efforts were ongoing in collaboration with other security agencies and non-conventional security outfits to ensure the victim was rescued safely and unharmed.

Jimoh denied knowledge of any contact between the suspected abductors and the family of the Irele-based businesswoman, assuring that she would be rescued without payment of ransom.

An 84-year-old grandpa, Godfrey Orji and a 75-year-old Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora are now cooling their heels in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following their arrest for allegedly dealing in illicit substances, which they sell to teenage secondary school students in Umuahia, Abia state capital.

Pa Obiora was arrested by NDLEA operatives on Friday, 19th June 2026, following credible intelligence that he was allegedly selling illicit substances to young students and others in his patent medicine store located at 4 Club road, Umuahia, where 4.64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam were recovered from him during a search of his premises.

In his case, Pa Orji, who is a pensioner and also into the illicit drug trade, was nabbed by security guards at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, for allegedly supplying illicit drugs to two teenage students (names withheld) in the school. The guards thereafter handed them over to the police, who in turn transferred them to NDLEA on Thursday, 18th June.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, one of the two teenagers, a 15-year-old SS2 student, claimed the 84-year-old grandpa supplies him with the drugs, which he takes and also sells to fellow students.

Babafemi said while the two grandpas are billed to have their day in court, the students have been placed on counselling and rehabilitation.
