Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will win if former president Goodluck Jonathan contests in 2027.

Abejide said Tinubu will win more than 32 states in Nigeria if Jonathan should accept to contest the 2027 election.

The lawmaker representing the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Kogi State, Leke Abejide, disclosed this during an interview on Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday.

There have been permutations that Jonathan would contest for the presidency in 2027.

Jonathan did one term as president before he was defeated by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

But, cautioning against Jonathan’s return, Abejide said Tinubu may only lose in Anambra and Ebonyi States.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain said: “My prayer is that they should run like that (different political platforms) and Asiwaju will win 32 states.

“He may lose maybe Anambra, Abia, he will win Ebonyi; he may win more than 32 states.”

On Tinubu being popular, he said: “I just came from Kano, I was in Kano on Wednesday and I slept there. I came to Kaduna by road yesterday morning.

“No insecurity, the road is very good, then I came by train to Abuja this morning and I can tell you that people are happy.”

A former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi on Sunday dismissed claims by ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi that they started the opposition coalition together.

Amaechi had said he and Fayemi initiated discussions about the opposition coalition before it expanded to other politicians.

The former governor of Rivers State made the claim during an X Space on Saturday.

“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi said.

However, responding on Sunday, Fayemi, through the head of his Media Office, Ahmad Sajoh, described Amaechi’s claim as false and misleading.

Sajoh, in a statement, insisted that Fayemi remains a committed member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Parts of the statement read: “In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit.

“It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State.

“At various public forums, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the party, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”

Following the adoption, Mark was appointed as ADC’s Interim National Chairman, and Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary.

Leke Abejide, the House of Representatives member for Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has issued a warning that prominent coalition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi, risk being expelled from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abejide said the Atiku-backed coalition is not in control of the ADC and he would prove it soon.

The opposition coalition recently adopted the ADC as its official political party.

Following the adoption, Mark was appointed as ADC’s Interim National Chairman, and Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary.

There are permutations that Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi are likely contenders for the party’s presidential ticket.

Dismissing their grip of the party, Abejide said ADC’s constitution stipulates that one can only occupy national office after two years in the party.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise disclosed this while appearing on the Mic On podcast on Saturday.

He also spoke about the ADC’s leadership crisis in Kogi State.

Abejide said: “Ogah and co are being sponsored by the coalition people, the coalition people are those that came from Labour, PDP, and a fraction from APC.

“In my state they are there, people like Dino Melaye and former senator Tunde Ogbeha, they are the ones behind all these crisis.

“Kingsley Ogah and Adaji are not in the NWC. According to our constitution, before you are suspended, you have to go to the Ward.

“It’s the Ward Chairman and board executive that can suspend me and not the state working committee. The two of them can’t constitute themselves to be State working committee.

“Give me some few days if I’m the National leader of ADC or not, you will know. We will send them (Atiku, David Mark, Aregbesola, Amaechi, Peter Obi) back to where they came from.

“It’s a lie, they have not taken over the party.

“According to our constitution, you can’t hold a National office except you are two years in the party and there is no room for an Interim leader.

“In the next few days we will know whether I’m the National leader of ADC or not, we will send them back to where they came from.”
