Shock as US-based Nigerian driver found dead inside truck

A Nigerian truck driver based in Arlington, Texas, Bode Ologan, has been reportedly found dead inside a truck in Texas.

PUNCH Metro first learnt of the incident on Sunday through a Facebook post shared on the Lagos Reporters page by a follower, Ibrahim Abolore.

The post, accompanied by Ologan’s driving licence, appealed for assistance in locating his relatives.

“Kindly help find out if anybody knows this guy’s family or his family. They found him dead inside the truck in Texas,” the post read.

Further findings by PUNCH Metro on Sunday revealed that the incident occurred on November 7, and associates of the deceased had already set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for his funeral.

In a GoFundMe appeal titled “Help Bode Ologan’s Family in Their Grief,” created by Omolade Adeduro, Ologan was described as a father of three.

The appeal stated, “Hello, the family and friends of Bode Ologan regret to announce his death on Friday, November 7th, 2025. He lived a fulfilling life and left behind three children: Semilore, Semilogo, and Semilola.

“Please help his children and family raise money for his funeral arrangements and other necessary expenses. Any amount is appreciated. May his soul rest in peace.”

As of Sunday, checks by PUNCH Metro showed that $4,717 had been raised from about 16 donors, while the family is hoping to raise $30,000 ahead of the burial scheduled for November 20.

Ologan was believed to have hailed from Owo in Ondo State.

Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in from friends, acquaintances, and members of the Arlington community.

One sympathiser, Emem Akpabio, wrote on Facebook, “Just got notified that my very first client, and loving father of three whom I obtained sole custody of his kids some 8 years ago, passed away and was found in his truck somewhere in Texas.”

Another Facebook user who claimed to be an acquaintance, Josely Pueten, wrote, “I just received a phone call about him. He was one of our tenants here in Arlington. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I know I got that call for a reason. I’m so sorry for his passing.”

Similarly, a Facebook user, Aboukia Fessibay, wrote, “Bode has gone too soon; so sad to see this of his passing to the great beyond. May God be with his children and the rest of his beloved family and friends.”

On Instagram, a sympathiser, Gbemisola Are, added, “May his soul rest in peace. Driving a truck is a very difficult and risky job.”

This incident reflects a recurring pattern of tragedies involving Nigerians abroad.

Earlier in January, PUNCH Metro reported the case of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian international student in the United Kingdom, who collapsed and died on December 29, 2024, prompting his grieving family to seek financial support for his burial.

Lagos driver flees with employer’s car four days after resumption

A Lagos-based developer, Olakanmi Ogundele, has raised the alarm after a newly hired driver, Olufemi Jogbodo, allegedly fled with his Gelly Saloon vehicle with number plate AGL586GW, just four days after resuming work.

Ogundele told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that the suspect, who initially identified himself as Adeleye, was assigned to him by his company’s manager on November 18 after his former driver fell ill.

He said Jogbodo accompanied him on a trip to the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State on the same day and returned with him to Lagos on November 20.

According to Ogundele, the suspect also took him to the office the following day before he later absconded with the vehicle while he was in a meeting.

He said, “My driver was sick and I told my company to get me another driver because I was going to travel to Ijebu Ode. So, they got a driver on October 18, and we went to Ijebu Ode together and came back on October 20. Then, he took me to my office in Ikoyi. I was in a meeting in the office when he told the security that I sent him on an errand. The security could not come in to confirm with me because the meeting was still ongoing. That was how he went with the car and never came back.”

Ogundele said the matter was immediately reported to the Ikoyi Police Division’s tactical team, who began tracking the suspect.

He, however, lamented that no progress had been made since the search for his whereabouts.

In a document sent to our correspondent on Sunday detailing the suspect’s information, he was discovered to be 44 years old and also a resident of Dele Ogunbowale Street in the Ikate area of the state.

The document also revealed that he runs 11 different bank accounts.

Ogundele, however, noted that some of the suspect’s relatives were also tracked and arrested.

“We have arrested his wife’s sister and one of his cousins, but we have to release them because they have stayed more than the permissible period in detention. During our findings, we discovered that she had an aged mother who is about 75 years old and stays around Agbado Ijaiye, but we could not arrest her because of her age,” Ogundele disclosed.

He further explained that the manager who sourced the driver was also arrested and interrogated.

He said, “We arrested the manager and interrogated him. He said that because I was in a hurry to travel, he could not get the information he had provided before they gave it to me. The manager did not do his due diligence by confirming the identity and address of the driver. Everything he gave was fake. When he was employed, the name he gave us was Adeleye, whereas his real name is Olufemi.”

Ogundele disclosed that plans were underway to place a bounty on the suspect to aid his arrest and the recovery of the vehicle.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adebisi Abimbola, could not be reached as calls made to her phone were not responded to. A text message sent to her had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.

PUNCH Metro reported in August that the Lagos State Police Command smashed a suspected car theft syndicate accused of using fake drivers to steal their employers’ vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said the gang leader, identified as Chinedu Emmanuel, was arrested during an operation that took place on July 17 in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.

According to him, Emmanuel recruited criminally-minded drivers and recommended them to unsuspecting car owners for employment.

The police boss explained that the drivers took over the vehicles of their employers after spending a week or two with them and thereafter took them across the border.

Nigerian man kills father, stabs sisters in US

A 27-year-old man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been taken into custody by New Orleans police after reportedly stabbing his father to death and injuring his two sisters in a domestic attack on Pebble Street.

Family members told a local outlet, WWL Louisiana that the deceased, Samuel Eweni, was a computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans.

They also confirmed that the two injured victims were his daughters.

Relatives described the incident as sudden and shocking, saying the suspect had a history of mental illness but had never been violent before.

WWL Louisiana reports that one of the injured sisters has been released from hospital, while the other remains admitted but is expected to recover.

The New Orleans Police Department also confirmed in a statement obtained Online on Sunday that Eweni had been located in Jefferson Parish.

“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish.

“He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the police said in a statement.

NOPD provided details of the incident, which occurred around 9:59 pm on November 11, 2025.

“The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Chukwuebuka Eweni in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on the evening of November 11, 2025, in the 8000 block of Pebble Street that also left two additional victims injured,” the statement partly read.

It was stated that officers responded to a call reporting “an aggravated battery by cutting believed to be domestic in nature.

“Upon arrival, officers located inside of a residence an unresponsive adult male subject who had sustained at least one fatal stab wound and two other adult victims with stab wounds.”

The two surviving victims were immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.

NOPD detectives confirmed the suspect’s identification and legal charges.

“Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have developed and positively identified Eweni as the perpetrator in this incident and have obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

“This suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous,” the statement said.

The department also noted that the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of next of kin.

PHOTOS: NAFDAC destroys N20bn fake products in Oyo

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Friday destroyed counterfeit, expired, banned, and substandard products valued at N20 billion during its South-West Zonal Destruction Flag-off Ceremony at the Moniya Dumpsite in Ibadan.

The exercise, NAFDAC said, is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health by permanently removing unsafe, falsified, and violative products from circulation, a release shared by the agency on its website and social media handle noted.

Items destroyed included substandard and falsified medicines, unsafe processed foods, counterfeit cosmetics, and various expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers, and distributors across the South-West.

The exercise also covered expired and damaged products voluntarily submitted by compliant companies, NGOs, and trade groups.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, commended the collaboration with other enforcement agencies, highlighting the scale of the operation:

“We commend the strong partnership with @CustomsNG, especially the recent handover of 25 containers of counterfeit and substandard pharmaceuticals, including a reefer container, for destruction.

“This is a clear demonstration of our collective commitment to protecting the health of Nigerians.”

Adeyeye also acknowledged the support of the “Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,” describing it as crucial in the “sustained national fight against counterfeiters.”

She reiterated NAFDAC’s resolve to continue targeting unsafe products.

The agency boss stated, “Our mandate is to ensure that unsafe, falsified, and violative products are permanently removed from circulation.

“We will continue to work relentlessly to safeguard the health and wellbeing of every Nigerian.”

According to the release, the destruction exercise, which drew officials and stakeholders from across the region, underscores NAFDAC’s proactive approach to tackling counterfeit goods that pose serious risks to public safety.
