In Abia North Senatorial District, evidence on the ground strongly shows that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu will retain his seat in the 2027 election unopposed.
This assertion came on Monday from the Federal Character Commission Commissioner representing Enugu State, Peter Eze, who was in Umuahia on a private visit.
He said, “In a democracy, performance speaks louder than promises. The reward for good performance is renewal of mandate, and in politics, that reward comes through re-election”.
According to Eze, education stands at the centre of Orji’s record.
“Across Abia North, more than 120 classroom blocks have been built or renovated through the intervention of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. These schools received desks, while the students received complete textbooks, with strong focus on science and technology subjects. More than 20 young people from Abia North Senatorial District are currently studying Medicine and Surgery in different parts of the world through his foundation.
“Many children who once benefited from his free education initiative, including free books, uniforms, sandals and meals are now adults with voting power. They remember who stood with them and their parents when it mattered”.
The Enugu FCC commissioner pointed out that infrastructure also tell the same story, adding, “Every clan in Arochukwu/Ohafia, Bende, Isikwuato and Umunneochi has at least one road project linked to the senator. In several communities, the first tarred roads in their history were either constructed when Kalu was a governor or during his time in the senate. The same thing with rural electrification projects and health centres. All former ABSIEC wards in Abia North have benefited from constituency projects, with at least two to three renovated schools in each ward. These are facts that can be seen and verified.
“In leadership, Senator Kalu is widely known as a peaceful leader. He does not interfere in chieftaincy disputes, development union elections or traditional ruler-ship matters. In a zone where local politics can easily create tension, this calm approach has earned him respect and wide acceptance.
He added, “The strongest political argument, however, is economic impact. Senator Kalu helped attract about $500 million in foreign direct investment to Abia North. A cashew processing factory in Igbere is already creating jobs and supporting local farmers. A solar light manufacturing factory, the first of its kind in Abia State, is under construction. A tricycle assembly factory is also coming to support transport business and youth employment. Large cassava, cocoa and other farms are spread across the district. These projects provide income, dignity and hope”.
Elections, Peter Eze said, are about simple questions people ask: Who has made my life better? Who has delivered, not just spoken? In Abia North, the answers are clear. Schools are improved. Roads now exist where there were none. Jobs are being created. Peace has been maintained.
