Hilda Baci becomes three-time Guinness World Record holder

Published

on

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has announced that she is now a three-time Guinness World Record holder, following confirmation that her September 2025 feat also earned her the title for the largest serving of rice overall.

Baci, who had already broken the world record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice in September 2025, revealed on Tuesday via Instagram—and updated her bio to read “Chef X3 Guinness World Record Holder”—that her effort had also earned her the title for the largest serving of rice overall.

“Woke up a three-time Guinness World Records holder and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. What a way to step into 2026,” she wrote.

The Guinness World Records team informed Baci through an email from Andrew Fanning, Head of Client Partnering – Records Creative Team, that her attempt at the “Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice” had simultaneously broken another record.

“Congratulations, you are Officially Amazing (again)! It has come to our attention when comparing record guidelines of the two record titles, that when you and your team attempted and achieved ‘Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice,’ you also achieved the record title of ‘Largest serving of rice,’” Fanning wrote.

Reacting to the announcement, Baci said she was both shocked and thrilled.

“This morning, I was just doing my usual routine, casually scrolling through my emails, when I saw the message come in. I was shocked and happy at the same time, completely caught off guard. Five months after the initial record announcement, I was just finding out that there was more,” she said.

She explained that what she initially believed was a single record had turned into two in one day. “When @ginonaija and I broke the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, I thought that was it.

“What I didn’t know, until now, is that on that same day, we had also broken the record for the largest serving of rice overall. So what I thought was one record… turned out to be two. And now, officially, that makes three Guinness World Records in total,” Baci added.

Her latest achievement follows her September 2025 record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, when she prepared 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a Lagos cookout — a feat recognised as the largest pot of the dish ever prepared worldwide.

This marked her second Guinness World Record, coming more than two years after she first set a record in May 2023 for completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, which made her Nigeria’s first chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records.

Baci credited her team for the record, particularly @oreoluwa_atinmo, describing their collaboration as crucial to the success.

“The very first person I called was @oreoluwa_atinmo, because this journey, this vision, and this record would not have been possible without her. We did this together. From idea to execution, side by side, fully aligned. Sharing that moment with her made everything feel real,” she said.

She also praised God for guiding her journey and providing unexpected blessings.

“Honestly, God is faithful. The kind of faithful that still surprises you. This feels like such a beautiful reminder that even when you think you’ve seen the full picture, God can still say, ‘There’s more.’ What a blessing, and what a way to enter this new year,” she added.

Baci concluded by thanking Guinness World Records, her team, and supporters for making the achievement possible.

“To my incredible team, this is OUR win. Every long day, every detail, every push, it all mattered. To Guinness World Records, thank you for the recognition and for honouring this achievement.

“And to everyone who supported, believed, and stood with us, my heart is so full. Still processing. Still grateful. Still in awe,” she said.

The latest recognition solidifies Baci’s position as one of Nigeria’s most decorated chefs, showcasing her culinary skill and highlighting the ambition and scale of Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.

Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that she lost ₦5 million after placing a bet during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, saying the experience has discouraged her from gambling again.

The actress disclosed this in a post shared on her Instagram handle on Monday, shortly after the conclusion of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.

“First time betting and I lost . Will never try it again. My 5M gone . In fact am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me,” she wrote.

Etiko, however, did not disclose the particular bet she placed or provide further details about how she lost the money.

Earlier, during the World Cup final, the actress shared a series of updates on her Instagram Story, indicating she was backing Argentina to defeat Spain.

In one post, she wrote, “Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?”

As the match progressed, she appeared increasingly frustrated with Argentina’s performance, posting, “This ball tough o. Argentina is pissing me off.”

She also praised Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for keeping the defending champions in the game, writing, “The goal keeper is the savior oo.”

PUNCH Online had reported that Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.

Details Of Operation Behind PFIPC ‘Fake DG’ Adeyemi’s Arrest Emerge

Published

on

The self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, was arrested last Tuesday by the Intelligence Response Team led by Chief Superintendent of Police, Moses Lohor.

It was learnt that Adeyemi was arrested between 11am and 12pm inside a building in the Ijebu-Ijesa area of Osun State.

The suspect’s arrest followed a bench warrant issued against him by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he allegedly failed to appear for arraignment on eight counts.

Giving details of the operation that led to the arrest, a senior police officer in the Osun State Police Command, in an interview with Punch, said Adeyemi’s location was first uncovered in the Aregbe-Fakule area of Osogbo on July 9 after evading tracking by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The police officer said Lohor’s team took over the tracking after the DSS withdrew from the case.

He added that the operatives eventually located Adeyemi in Ilesa and subsequently arrested him on Tuesday morning.

The source said, “The Moses Lohor team were in Osun for surveillance ahead of the August 15 governorship election. They were mapping hotspots and collating other intelligence. As a matter of fact, the Lohor team didn’t report to the Osun State Police Command. They operated from the area commander’s office at Oke-Fia in Osogbo.

“Adeyemi was already on their watch list, but they didn’t act because the case was being handled by the DSS. Adeyemi’s last known location tracked by the DSS was Ibadan, but they couldn’t apprehend him because he regularly switched off his phone.

“A senior police officer from Abuja informed the Lohor team about the DSS withdrawal on Wednesday. Lohor’s team then decided to track Adeyemi’s location on Thursday, July 9. Incidentally, he was located around the Aregbe-Fakule area of Osogbo.

“Luckily for them, late on Monday night, Adeyemi’s location showed he was around Ilesa, and the Lohor team intensified efforts, which led to his arrest on Tuesday morning. The team only informed the Osun State Commissioner of Police when they moved in to make the arrest.”

Adeyemi is reportedly being detained at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, from where he is expected to be arraigned on July 27.
